“We woke up to about eight to 10 inches of fresh snow and the weather seems to be turning in our favor.”

Jon Slaughter is with the Boreal ski resort atop Donner Summit – the only resort currently open around Tahoe. Boreal has been making snow over the past few weeks. But Slaughter says now they’ll be able to open lifts all the way to the top of the mountain.

“We’re going to continue to make snow every opportunity we have but the eight to 10 inches of fresh snow that we’ve received gave us just enough that we’re going to be able to open top to bottom starting this Saturday.”

And locals will be pulling for more snow during the annual “Pray for Snow Party” Thursday night at the Sierra-at-Tahoe resort near Tahoe's south shore.

The storm prompted chain controls over mountain passes this morning, but all highways are now open without controls.
