Officials at Sacramento State say campus is safe after an altercation and a shooting this afternoon at a residence hall. Officials say a campus police officer shot a man when he allegedly charged officers with a knife. The incident began when police were called to the American River Courtyard residence hall around 2:30 after reports of a disturbance. Norm Long is a spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department. He describes the scene as officers got there.

"When they arrived in the dorm area they found one victime who appeared to have sustained trauma to his body, possibly from a bat.  They also contacted a suspect who was armed with a knife. That suspet then charged at the officers with a knife. The Sac State officers then fired at the suspect, injuring him"
The two men were taken to UC Davis Medical Center. It’s not clear whether the victims are students and what lead to the altercation. Their names have not yet been released. Police say there is no danger to the rest of the campus and classes are continuing.
