This morning, 343 firefighters from throughout the Sacramento region climbed the stairs of the Renaissance Tower – one of Downtown Sacramento’s tallest buildings.

They were paying tribute to the 343 firefighters who died on September 11th…going up the stairs a total of four-times – or 110 flights – which was how tall the Trade Centers were.

Today has also been declared a national day of service. More than 200 volunteers helped out with clean-ups and beautification projects throughout the City of Sacramento.

…And Cal Expo’s 9/11 Memorial Plaza has been open to the public all day. The memorial features a steel I-beam pulled from the wreckage at “Ground Zero”. The plaza will be open until 7 PM.
