The fire has destroyed 60 homes and industrial buildings...and forced the evacuation of hundred of residents. CalFire officials are calling it the 49er Fire.
Spokesman Daniel Berlant says it’s 50% contained right now…but that could change today.

“This morning as the sun comes out we’ll have a little bit better picture of the progress that was made last night. We’ll have a better idea of the containment lines that were built as well."

The fire broke out at about 2:40 PM Sunday and has burned some 275 acres. Berlant says investigators are still looking into what caused the fire. Two firefighters and one resident had minor injuries. Residents spent the night in two shelters at the Rock Creek Elementary School and at Auburn Elementary School.
Governor Schwarzenegger has declared a State of Emergency in Placer County because of the fire.
