The train line runs from Auburn to San Jose…with stops in cities including Sacramento, Davis and Oakland.
Capitol Corridor spokeswoman Luna Salaver says ticket sales are down because more people are out-of-work.
“If you look at many of the cities along the Capitol Corridor you can see that the unemployment rate mirrors our ridership decrease. For example, in Oakland the unemployment rate is 13.9%. In West Sacramento it’s 16%.”
Despite the double-digit drop in ridership, revenue for the Capitol Corridor is down only five-percent from last year. That’s because Amtrak increased fares last August.
