A similar event was held Thursday night at the corner of Greenback Lane and Sunrise Boulevard in Citrus Heights.

One of the people taking part was Shadieh Mirmobiny. She’s an art history professor at American River College. She was born and raised in Iran and moved to the US 25-years ago.

Mirmobiny says local Iranian-Americans are feeling anxious right now.

“Everybody has sisters, brothers in Iran and they are just worried, they’re glued to their TV sets, to the internet just waiting for a bit of news and we’re sort of bracing for what’s going to happen next. But my optimism is for the long run. I know that Iranians are persistent.”

Mirmobiny estimates there are about 20,000 Iranian-Americans living in the Sacramento area. Friday's rally will be on the West Steps of the State Capitol Building from 5 to 8 PM.
