Sacramento-area native Laura Ling went to China to report on North Korean refugees fleeing their homeland. Now, she and her Current TV colleague, Euna Lee, face 12 years of hard labor at a North Korean work camp.
That’s because North Korea’s highest court found them guilty of an unspecified “grave crime” against the nation. As the State Department attempts to bring the two journalists home safely, Laura’s family and friends wait – anxiously.
Capital Public Radio’s Ben Adler spoke with two of Laura’s childhood friends Thursday afternoon: Cheryll Marsh and Stephanie Tomasegovich. They grew up with Laura; they've been friends ever since they first met at Barrett Middle School in Carmichael 20 years ago.
