Members of the Save Our Rail Depot coalition want the 85 year old building to be the focal point of the city’s new transportation hub.

But moving it would cost about $17 million and Mayor Kevin Johnson says that’s not a wise expenditure.

“We’re gonna keep it where it is; we’re gonna still construct our Intermodal, which’ll be a brand-new Intermodal; and use the existing structure as an entrance that goes into Intermodal.”

City officials say it’ll cost about $250 million to build that Intermodal that’ll include not only trains but bus and light rail service as well.
