The rate hike affects everyone who gets water from the Truckee Meadows Water Authority.  For example, residential customers with water meters will pay an extra $1.10 a month, an increase of just under three percent.  Businesses and residents without meters will see their bills go up too.  General Manager Mark Foreesays he knows these are difficult economic times.  So he’s tried to keep the rate hike as small as possible.
Foree: “It’s been four years and three months since we last adjusted rates and the main reason for the need to adjust rates at this time was because over that past four years, we’ve seen increased operating and maintenance expenses.”
Foree says labor concessions will save the utility about $1 million but that’s not enough to offset higher costs. In all, 93,000 homes and businesses will be affected.
