Cal Expo Officials Not Crazy About Selling State Fair
Cal Expo officials appear unenthusiastic about Governor Schwarzenegger’s proposal to sell the state fairgrounds land. That’s one of several state assets the governor wants to unload to help balance California’s budget.

Gil Albiani is the vice-chair of the Cal Expo board. He supports the governor, who appointed him to the board – but says he’s disappointed Schwarzenegger wants to sell the fairgrounds.
Albiani: “I’m a real estate broker, and my experience, of course, is with real property. As a business person, I don’t think it’s a good business practice – in my experience – to sell assets to balance a budget."
In a statement, Cal Expo’s general manager calls the fairgrounds “an important resource for this state” and hopes the governor and lawmakers will reconsider.
Cal Expo is currently in talks with NBA representatives about building a new Sacramento Kings arena on the fairgrounds. Both the GM and board member Albiani say Cal Expo will keep working on the arena – as if the governor hadn’t proposed the sale at all.
