Members of Sandra’s family were joined by those from throughout the region and beyond at the service in the gymnasium of Tracy’s West High School.  An overflow crowd was diverted to the school’s football field, where the proceedings could be heard over a public address system.  U-S Senator Barbara Boxer of California was one of the speakers.  
 
I hope that the Cantu family will take some small comfort in knowing that families all across California and all across this great nation are with them today.
 
Sandra Cantu was buried Wednesday during a private funeral. Twenty-eight year old Melissa Huckaby, a neighbor of Sandra’s, is in custody after being charged with the girl’s murder. If convicted, she could face the death penalty.  Huckaby did not enter a plea during an arraignment hearing earlier this week.
