The new terminal will replace the RTC’s aging and overcrowded CitiCenter terminal has been in the works for some time, but RTC spokeswoman Felicia Archer says the groundbreaking couldn’t come at a better time.
"We need to move to an area that will have sufficient room for growth to serve the existing transit needs and the needs for the future. At the same time the community needs the jobs, so it couldn’t come at a better time."
Archer says the project will create 200 construction jobs. Federal money will pay for 95% of construction costs including nearly $4 million in stimulus funding. And the city of Reno has offered to buy the old terminal for nearly $7 million.
Construction will begin next month and should be finished next fall.
