It now costs $2 to ride the bus - up from $1.50. Express bus rides are now $3 instead of $2. And seniors and students will see their fares rise by 25 cents.

Terry Bassett heads the Yolo County Transportation District. He says the state is cutting the agency’s funding by about $1.5 million over the next five years.

Plus, another critical funding source is way down…sales tax revenue.

“Well, it’s the economy. Sales tax revenue’s down throughout the state and we’ve been hurting severely too. The irony is public transit ridership’s up over 30%. Yet at the same time the state’s cutting funding to transit. So there’s no rhyme or reason to that logic. But that’s the reality that we have to deal with.”

This is the first fare increase in about five-years.

Yolobus serves all of Yolo County and travels into Downtown Sacramento as well as to Sacramento International Airport.
