Members of the California Senate Observed A Moment of Silence (Today, 3.23) Following the Shootings On Saturday.
Monday, March 23, 2009
State lawmakers today (Monday, 3.23) memorialized four Oakland Police Officers shot by a parole violator over the weekend.
Three officers were killed and another remains on life support.
Senator Loni Hancock of Berkeley commended the officers for their service…
“This was an example of a senseless, horrifying tragedy that has rocked Oakland and the east bay community to its very roots. These men were wonderful officers. We truly mourn them…”
Two of the officers were shot and killed during a traffic stop of the suspect’s vehicle Saturday afternoon. The other two were shot a few hours later when their SWAT team was called to where the shooter was hiding. That’s where police returned fire and killed the man who had a violent criminal history. Governor Schwarzenegger has ordered flags at the Capitol to fly at half staff in honor of the fallen officers.
