The Reverend Al Sharpton, who co-chairs the Education Equality Project, will also attend.

They’re all here for a summit organized by Mayor Kevin Johnson. He’s calling it: “Education That Works: Ideas for Sacramento.”

Ting Sun is co-founder of the Natomas Charter School…and the mayor’s volunteer education liaison. She says the goal is to improve student performance.

“If you looked at the achievement of schools across Sacramento, there’s quite a bit of unevenness across the board. And especially for those students who are underachieving, we really do need to put more resources together to support those students.”

Topics will include: making schools more accountable, recruiting the best teachers, and school-choice. 250 people are expected to attend Monday's event. It’s at the California Museum in Downtown Sacramento.
