The California Republican Party is holding its spring convention in Sacramento this weekend.  Two GOP candidates for Governor and the new state budget will capture the limelight.

Party officials will consider a resolution censuring GOP legislators who voted in favor of the budget’s 13-billion dollars in tax hikes.

But, Chairman Ron Nehring says he opposes the move…

“All of these public officials whether they’re republican or democrat and who voted in favor of the budget plan have to go back to their districts and they have to explain their vote and ultimately its going to be voters who have to make the determination whether those elected officials did the right thing or not…”

Nehring says republicans plan to campaign against the budget tax hikes in hopes of winning over voters in next year's election.

State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and Former Ebay CEO Meg Whitman will be at the convention.

They’ve both formed campaign exploratory committees to determine if they should officially seek the GOP nomination for governor.
