Home Depot is opening a site there and company officials say during the current recession they haven’t been doing much of that lately.

Home Depot spokeswoman Kathryn Gallagher says Auburn is a solid market for them.

“We’ve been trying to get a store there in Auburn for quite a while and we’re only opening a handful of stores ourselves this year. So that points to just how important Auburn and Placer County are for the Home Depot.”

She says the new store on Willow Creek Drive in North Auburn will be the only new Home Depot opening in Northern California this year. It’ll employ about 165 people and create about $350,000 in sales tax revenue for Placer County.

Several city and county officials will take part in a dedication ceremony for the store…set for Wednesday at 6 PM.
