Sacramento County officials say a Southern California-based company is blanketing the area with pseudo tax forms.

For a fee of $95, the company promises to cut your property tax bill by reducing the value of your home…due to the declining real estate market.

But County Assessor Ken Stieger says you don’t need to pay for that…the county does it for free. In fact, they’re in the process of re-assessing property values right now.

“We lowered some 90,000 properties last year. We’re looking at probably lowering in the neighborhood of 130,000 this year. So they don’t need to take advantage of a service like that, at least not at this time.”

Stieger says his staff will finish assessing property values by mid-May and post the results in June. People who don’t agree with the value attached to their property can file an appeal…for free…between July and November.
