City Council members Tuesday night approved a budget plan that also includes suspending a fire engine company.

City Manager Kerry Miller says the cuts will offset big drops in sales tax and user fee revenues.

“These are unprecedented economic times and the situation could be described as dire as it relates even to our local economy.”

Miller says future layoffs may be avoided if employee bargaining units agree to furloughs or early retirement programs.

Meanwhile, the new budget includes reduced hours at the Georgia Murray Library and the elimination of the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary’s educational program.
