Sacramento County Supervisors Tuesday are expected to approve a recommendation to delay the project.
G. Hardy Acree is Director of Airports. He says the economic downturn and a drop in passenger traffic prompted him to remove the parking garage from the airport’s massive $1.3 billion expansion project.
“We will take it out because the new forecast says we probably have enough surface parking to accommodate the passenger activities until we get back into that solid growth mode.”
Delaying construction of the parking garage will reduce the airport expansion project by $160 million. Meanwhile, work will continue on a new terminal.
The latest figures show that the airport saw a 7.3% drop in passengers last year.
