Pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger
The pilot who safely landed a jetliner in the Hudson River last week will return to his Northern California home with a big welcome back.
Local officials in the town of Danville, an upscale suburb of the Bay Area, will greet US Airways Pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and his family on Saturday. Greg Gilbert is a spokesman for Danville.
“Everybody’s buzzing about Capt. Sullenberger and his heroics. All the coffee shops and restaurants, all you hear is about how calm he was under pressure. You know, it’s going to be a small town ceremony. We have local a high school student singing the national anthem, the mayor will be here.”
Sullenberger was able to glide Flight 1549 to an emergency river landing in New York last Thursday after reporting a birdstrike and loss of engine power. All 155 people on board survived. Sullenberger attended President Barack Obama's inauguration Tuesday.
