Lawmakers were sticking around an extra day for the opportunity to meet with California’s congressional members.  Democratic leaders will give them a presentation—seeking California’s share of anticipated federal economic stimulus money.  State Senate Leader Darrell Steinberg will also have a separate meeting with U-S Senator Barbara Boxer.  Steinberg’s Communications Director Jim Evans says leaders are interested in funding for specific project areas.

“Certainly transportation, infrastructure dollars, unemployment benefits and renewable energy projects.”

State budget negotiations with the Governor are expected to resume later in the week when lawmakers return to Sacramento.  They’re all hoping to get a budget deal together by the end of the month—before the state runs out of cash.
