Rich Owings is with the county’s Waste Management and Recycling Division. He says they retooled their collection schedule to save on costs.

“Over time the routes have become inefficient. The city of Citrus Heights and the city of Rancho Cordova have incorporated and they do their own collection. So that was like big holes in the middle of our collection routes. And then by reorganizing the routes we make them more efficient again.”

Owings says the reorganization will save the county $1.8 million dollars a year.

He says you should’ve received a post card a couple of weeks ago about your new collection day. But if you’re not sure when it is, you can go to the county’s website. There's a link (above right) under "Related Info."
