The Reno area’s Regional Transportation Commission estimates it’s share of the stimulus package will be $40 million, which is barely enough to complete one project on its list of needed improvements. The RTC’s Felicia Archer says, even so, the money is welcome and work could begin at once.
"The point is to have projects ready to go and we definitely have projects ready to go and at the first word of a stimulus package our highway and street team of engineers has been working diligently to make sure that they are ready to go as soon as possible."
Archer says the RTC has a backlog of road projects exceeding two billion dollars, so any federal help is welcome. In November, voters approved a two-cent-a-gallon gas tax hike to help pay for the projects which will create three thousand jobs in the first three years.
