You can chop it up and put it in your green waste recycling bin. Or you can take it to one of several tree recycling sites throughout Sacramento on Saturday.

Chris Andis is with the County's Waste Management and Recycling Department. She says if you bring your tree to a recycling location, their staff will turn it into something else.

"They have a big giant chopper and they push the trees in there and they ground it all up into mulch and then that is used for ground cover and various environmental uses. The key point here is that they stay out of the landfill."

All trees must be free of stands, nails, ornaments, lights and tinsel. Flocked trees will be accepted…and there's a limit of five trees per carload.
