Despite a slow start to the ski season, most Tahoe resorts will be fully open in time for Christmas, thanks to several feet of new snow. Jessica Van Pernis of Northstar-at-Tahoe, says the economy hasn’t had any noticeable effect on advance bookings, but the new snow has increased interest.
"When there’s snow here, people definitely come out. I’d have to say skiing and snowboarding definitely becomes part of people’s …who they are. They like to continue doing things that they like to do and we’re seeing them come out now. They’re getting excited with all this recent snowfall."
The Christmas season is usually the busiest time for Tahoe ski areas and is critical for the local economy. Weather forecasters are calling for more snow on Christmas Eve and another storm around New Year’s Eve.
