A series of strong winter storms over the coming week will make driving in the mountains difficult, particularly if motorists are not prepared.  Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol says the most important thing is to ensure that your vehicle is prepared.

"Make sure that you have mud and snow tires, that they have sufficient tread depth and if you require traction devices, that you are familiar with how to put those on or at least have a good understanding of how they work whether they be tire chains or tire cables."

Allen says it’s also important to allow plenty of time to get to your destination and bring extra clothes, food and fuel in case of delays due to an accident or a road closure.
