The Republican incumbent just barely fended off Democratic challenger Bill Durston.
 
With 96% of precincts counted…Lungren led 49% to Durston’s 44%. Durston says he’s proud of how far he came. 

“To come that close with a pure grassroots campaign, with no support from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee I think was a remarkable achievement and a testimony to the hard work of thousands of people.” 

The 3rd District is seen as a stronghold for conservatives. It includes portions of Sacramento, Solano and three other counties. 

Lungren’s victory means he’ll be serving his eighth term in the House.

No one from Congressman Lungren’s campaign office returned our request for comment.
