Former city council member and Stockton businesswoman Ann Johnston defeated Councilman and educator Clem Lee for the city’s top post.  Stockton faces a substantial budget deficit due in part to a high rate of home foreclosures. Johnston says she’ll seek the cooperation of city workers to make ends meet.

We’re going to work with employees and the unions and all of those folks who have a stake in the city and figure out how we can cut costs.

The current Mayor, Ed Chavez did not seek re-election. Johnston will be sworn into office on January sixth.
