The bus was taking Sacramento residents to Colusa Casino – about an hour northwest of here – Sunday night when the driver lost control and rolled the bus into a ditch. Authorities are investigating if that man - 52-year-old, Quintin Watts, of Stockton - was under the influence of prescription drugs, alcohol or both. Watts is in critical condition at an area hospital.
California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Johnson says the passengers are of Asian descent and speak little English. He says this is causing delays in identifying the crash’s survivors.
“These are people’s loved ones we want to make sure that they’re identified and they’re treated and they’re taken care of.”
It’s suspected that one of the eight victims who died in the accident was also the owner of the bus service. However California Highway Patrol has not confirmed that. The 35 other passengers were transferred to area hospitals for injuries.
