Project Vote Smart Releases Candidate Surveys for California
Less than half of the candidates for congress and state legislature responded to the Project Vote Smart election year survey...down from past years.

The results are in…and “Project Vote Smart” says it’s disappointed more candidates in California didn’t fill out its election survey.
For the past 25 years, the national, non-partisan group has asked candidates for congress and the state legislature to fill out questionnaires about their political views.
Project Vote Smart’s Brandon Horton…says California candidates had a “pretty typical” response to this year’s survey…
“We found that 47-percent of the congressional and 27-percent of the state legislative candidates were willing to fill out the political courage test in the state of California. California has always been pretty good…it had a high in 1996 of nearly 75-percent response…and it hasn’t dropped below 50-percent as many other states have…”
Still, Project Vote Smart says it wishes more candidates in California would fill out its survey. Candidates in each state answer questions about campaign finance, abortion, government spending and the environment…among others.
