The dealers are considering redevelopment projects for a half-mile stretch of Florin Road, they’re looking at everything from infill housing to a major retail center – and, of course, auto dealerships could remain part of the plan. Two of the auto dealers have closed recently and a third – Winter Volvo – will soon shut down, creating a major void along Florin Road. The dealers say more competition, especially from the nearby Elk Grove Auto Mall, the credit crunch, higher gas prices and the overall dismal economy are driving them out of business. So, the dealers, who are located between Franklin Boulevard and Luther Burbank High School, have hired a consultant and are working with the city to look at possible projects for the struggling neighborhood.
