A few weeks ago, Foothill Theatre Company executives said they needed to raise at least $90,000 this month…or be forced to shut down.
Now, an outpouring of community donations means the company can move forward with their next production: “On Golden Pond.”
But Executive Director Karen Marinovich says they’re not out of the woods yet. They still need to raise $154,000 by the end of the year to stay afloat for next season.
"We made the promise to the community that we would not move forward unless it looked extremely likely we were going to be able to raise the additional $154,000 and it looks that way to us. We’ve had a tremendous response from the community about the existence of Foothill Theatre Company and how important it is."
Marinovich blames the weak economy for the 32-year-old organization’s financial problems.
Meanwhile, it’s still unclear whether the company will stay at the historic Nevada Theatre or move to another venue in Grass Valley.
