Five Democrats made the trip—they include Assembly members Lori Saldana, John Laird and Mike Davis as well as Senators Alex Padilla and Dean Florez. Dozens of lawmakers intended to go… But with a budget impasse the travel plans changed for many, including Assemblywoman Patty Berg.

“It wasn’t because I was worried that I’d take a hit in the press, really it wasn’t.  I just couldn’t justify leaving the state when we didn’t have a budget…”
Assembly Speaker Karen Bass was scheduled to have a fund raiser in Denver but opted out, citing budget negotiations.

“I was a very early supporter of Senator Obama, I am an official delegate, I would love to go back and cast my vote, but I don’t believe that will happen at this point in time.

Of the lawmakers who went for some it was a quick turn around—they flew back in time for Monday floor session. Others say they’re playing it day by day or hour by hour and will return if there is significant movement.
