Crates of solar panels stood packed and ready to ship to Canada at OptiSolar’s manufacturing plant in McClellan Park this week. The company expects to start construction of five solar farms in Ontario within a month. It also has plans to build the world’s largest photovoltaic project in San Luis Obispo County. To prepare for mass production, the company is expanding its McClellan presence. It plans to bring in more equipment and ramp up its solar panel production next month. By the end of this year, the company will produce more than 75,000 photovoltaic modules in seven McClellan warehouse bays, each longer than a football field. Optisolar has 50 employees at McClellan. By 2011, the company said it might employee 500 people full-time. Its growth, though, hinges on the extension of federal renewable energy investment tax credits, which expire at the end of this year.
