Sandy Dahl is a flight attendant with United Airlines and widow of the pilot of United flight 93, which crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. She was on hand to help commemorate the tribute.

"This is the happy part. You know I lost my four friends and my husband. It was an awful, horrible day, horrible week, horrible year . . . horrible couple years.

The exhibit features a 125,000 pound steel I-beam from the wreckage of the World Trade Center, a new pure-granite pentagon-shaped flagpole, and a new fountain with a steel-flame rising out of the water.

Bob Smith is a regular visitor to the memorial.

"I come here every year.  I come to the fair, but I always make it a point to stop here and just spend a little time here."

The plaza is located just inside the main entrance of Cal Expo.  A scaled down model of the twin towers is visible from the midway.  The state fair runs through Labor Day.
