The California State Fair isn’t a magnet for violence. That’s the message fair officials are expressing today (Monday 8.18) after a double shooting outside of the fairgrounds over the weekend.
Fair managers say the state fair is safe for family fun…despite the chaos Friday night…when a group of teenagers got into a gun fight and two people were wounded.
Cal Expo’s Brian May says it was an isolated, unfortunate incident…
“We hope that this isn’t going to occur again, we’ve taken additional measures with the city, the county and the California Highway Patrol…to put more resource across the street to discourage that kind of behavior…”
There have been other violent incidents at the state fair in past years.
May assures the public that security inside the fairgrounds is tight…and he’s calling for more police officers outside Cal Expo…on Exposition boulevard…where the fight happened Friday.
Attendance at the fair has been down slightly, and officials think that could be due to temperatures in the 100’s over the weekend, and competition from the summer Olympics in China.
