The president of Corti Brothers, Darrell Corti, calls a decision by the landlord to rent to another tenant a drastic and unforeseen turn of events.
Darrell Corti: "We weren’t told anything. We were actually trying to negotiate with our landlord for a lease. We’ve been in this building since 1970. We have not had a lease in this building since 1988."
The landlord, Davis Properties of Sacramento, will be renting the Corti Brothers space to M2 Venture Partners headed by Raley’s heir Michael Teel and his partner Michael Ashker. The Teel group will open Good Eats Grocer. Corti is already seeking a new location.
Darrell Corti: "We’re forced to relocate. We’re not going out of business. We have not sold to anyone. We are just moving."
Corti Brothers opened in 1947. It has 50 employees. The store will stay open until Sept. 30 and vacate by Oct. 15.
