The southbound lanes were originally scheduled to reopen Tuesday morning. But CalTrans spokesman Mark Dinger says last week’s triple-digit temperatures limited construction crews’ progress.
Dinger: “We were expecting to work anywhere from 16 to 20 hours a day; sometimes, we could only work eight hours a day, depending on the heat.”
The final closure starts Friday at 8pm, when CalTrans shuts down the northbound lanes from the downtown interchange to L Street. Those lanes are scheduled to reopen at 5am Monday, July 28th.
CalTrans will also close the P Street interchange in both directions for this weekend only – from Friday evening to Monday morning.
