So far, five local departments have sent out 108 firefighters and 20 fire engines. Steve Capps is with the Cosumnes Community Services District Fire Department in Elk Grove. They’ve provided 27 firefighters.

"For our department it’s the largest we’ve ever had out at one time."

But Capps says local departments are still operating at full strength because other firefighters have volunteered to fill in. The Sacramento “Metropolitan Fire District” and “City Fire Department” along with departments in Folsom and Isleton have also sent reinforcements.

One of the deployed is Sacramento City Fire Captain Jim Doucette. He’s working the Mendocino Lightning Complex fires in Ukiah. Doucette says at one point they had more than 130 fires burning at the same time.

"I’ve never seen anything like this in Northern California, it’s really bad up here right now."

There’s still no word on when local firefighters will be returning home. But with homes still being threatened…officials say it won’t be anytime soon.
