The insect came from the Antelope area of Sacramento County. Earlier this month, an infected dead bird was found in the same area.

Officials with the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District say the virus tends to spread quickly once they see a few positive mosquito samples.

They’re urging residents to drain any standing water in their yards which can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes…and wear inspect repellent when outside at dawn and dusk to prevent from getting bit.
