11th Measure Qualifies For November Ballot

There are now eleven measures on November’s ballot. Yes, you heard right: Eleven. The latest to be qualified by the Secretary of State would change the way some political districts are drawn. It’s a measure championed by Governor Schwarzenegger and groups like California Common Cause . Under the initiative a 14-member independent commission would draw the lines for legislative districts. But lawmakers would retain the right to draw the congressional district map. The California Democratic Party opposes the measure. Members say it wouldn’t do enough to ensure minority representation in the legislature. The initiative joins a group of measures dealing with hot button topics like same-sex marriage and parental notification for abortion
