Starting at 8 PM, work crews will shut down all south bound lanes between Richards Boulevard and the Capital City Freeway.

Mark Dinger is with Caltrans.

"We’re very apprehensive about how drivers coming in from the north area are going to handle this. They don’t have the same transit options that drivers from the south area had. For example, there’s no light rail service to south or north Natomas. So those drivers don’t have access to the same transit that the south area people did."

But Dinger says there’s a lighter traffic pattern coming from the north. And commuters can use alternate routes to get Downtown…including Highway 160 and the Capital City Freeway.

South bound lanes are scheduled to be closed for ten days…through June 23rd.

Work crews are replacing an aging drainage system and repaving the stretch of I-Five known as the “boat section”.
