The Sacramento City Council has approved an emergency ordinance allowing people to ride their bikes on the K Street mall in Downtown Sacramento.
The ordinance specifically allows bicycles on
- 4th Street between J and L streets
- K Street between 2nd and 4th streets
- K between 7th and 13th streets.
The mall was designated primarily for pedestrians – that’s why bikes were originally banned on the stretch. But with the I-5 project coming up, city offiicals are worried a lot more motorists will be competing with bicyclists for space on downtown surface streets.
