A judge has blocked Sacramento County’s approval of the 6,000-acre Sunrise-Douglas project in the city of Rancho Cordova. Environmental groups filed the lawsuit in Sacramento County Superior Court, attempting to block the development because of concerns over preserving wetlands habitats. The environmental group’s attorney said the proposed 22,500-home development failed to address the demand for water and the impact on wildlife, especially salmon and steelhead. Developers can continue building homes under construction, but cannot move forward on new homes in one of the region’s highest-profile projects. Of course, developers can appeal the ruling.
