Both candidates are campaigning on similar themes: securing national borders, cutting taxes and strengthening the military. Tom McClintock has spent 22 years in the state Legislature as both an Assemblyman and Senator. Doug Ose is a developer and former congressman who represented the Sacramento area from 1999 to 2006. There are two other lesser known candidates running: Suzanne Jones and Ted Terbolizard. They’re competing to represent the heavily-Republican 4th congressional district which runs from Sacramento’s northeast suburbs to the Oregon and Nevada borders. The winner of Tuesday's Republican primary will likely face Democrat Charlie Brown, who narrowly lost to John Doolittle two years ago. Incumbent Doolittle is now retiring as FBI investigators look into his connections with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
