Caltrans is shutting down all northbound lanes of Interstate Five through Downtown Sacramento for the next 10 days beginning at 8 PM Friday. And airport officials say they’re bracing for the potential impact, especially on Monday – the first work day of the closure.

"We’re going with the advice that we’ve gotten from Caltrans which is: plan for the worst and hope for the best."

Airport spokeswoman Karen Doron is urging airline passengers to plan ahead. She says give yourself an extra hour to get to the airport on time.

And if you have family or friends flying into the airport, Doron says they’ve got that covered.

"We do have a brochure available that gives directions away from the airport."

Meantime, if you need to get to the airport and would normally take I-5 through Downtown Sacramento…Doron suggest this detour:

Take Highway 50 or Interstate 80 westbound through West Sacramento. Then take Interstate 80 east towards Reno…which will hook back up with northbound I-5 towards the airport.
