"There seems to be an opportunity where really, these two storied destinations, Arco and Cal Expo, might find a new life together that would not involve the imposition of new taxes."

The NBA is working with Cal Expo’s chief negotiator – former Governor Pete Wilson – to build an arena and entertainment complex at the state fairgrounds.

Wilson said the arena would be funded through commercial development of mixed-use projects at Cal Expo.

"For this to work it has to be a win, win, win proposition for the three organizations that will be involved: Cal Expo, the NBA and the developer."

Cal Expo board members then voted to continue working with the NBA for the next six months on a specific plan for the site.
