In 2006, a student at the high school run by Johnson’s non-profit told a teacher Johnson had touched her inappropriately. But after Johnson’s personal lawyer questioned the student on behalf of the school, she changed her story.
The Sacramento police department investigated the complaint, but Johnson was never charged.
Fargo’s call to re-open the case comes a day after the Sacramento Bee reported that Johnson paid a Phoenix teenager more than 200,000 dollars to settle a separate case in 1996. Johnson was not charged there, either.
In a statement, Johnson spokeswoman Christy Setzer said the mayor’s call to open a “closed, meritless case” was “a desperate tactic” to keep her job.
