The number of people riding RT trains last month was up 43% from the same time last year. In fact, for the first time last month, more people rode light rail than buses.

Alane Masui is with RT. She says they expect even higher ridership numbers this month.  

"We can accommodate additional passengers. And so with the upcoming I-5 closure and with the increase in gas prices we’re definitely ready to add additional trains when needed."

More people are taking buses too. Ridership in April was up 2.5% from last year…despite a five-percent cut in bus service in January.
